Ghana arrest of Chinese miners will not harm relations, says foreign ministry

China is determined that its relations with Ghana will not be undermined by the arrest of some 200 Chinese illegal gold miners in a crackdown by Ghanaian authorities, a senior Beijing foreign ministry official said on Tuesday.
The arrests are a sensitive issue for China, which would want to defuse any issue that could stoke popular resentment against its citizens doing business in Africa or threaten its expanding trade relationship with the continent.

New measures say abandoned babies should not be 'disposed' of or kept

Measures to ensure the welfare of those already in private orphanages have also been introduced following an accident in which six abandoned children, living in unsuitable conditions, died in a fire in Henan early this year. The tragedy alerted authorities to the problems unofficial adoptions of abandoned babies can cause.

Party magazine's editorial decries 'negative' internet users

A Communist Party magazine published a commentary against internet users on Monday - saying they were disseminating false information. It is the latest in a series of state press editorials seeking to discredit liberal opinion leaders and online expressions of discontent.
The commentary, appearing in Qiushi (“Seeking Truth”), was entitled “Vigilant towards negative energy online - A rational view of cyberspace.” It noted that an increasing number of Chinese citizens were now living a “digital existence,” saying this was not necessarily a positive development.

Ban Ki-moon arrives in China for high-level talks

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for high-level talks with Chinese officials on North Korea, Syria and other issues, his spokesman said.
Ban will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and senior foreign policy officials during his stay, spokesman Martin Nesirky said.
Ban “expects to discuss a wide range of matters pertaining to peace and security, such as the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Mali and Syria,” Nesirky said in an e-mail to AFP.
